Silicon Valley Telehealth: Pros and Cons

Injuries and illness happen at the most inconvenient times, and that's as true for eye problems as it is for any other health concern. A child coming down with pink eye or your own eyes getting swollen and itchy can seem even worse if it happens in the middle of the night. These situations aren't bad enough to need emergency medical help, but having an eye doctor you can reach 24 hours a day would be a relief. Now you can, with CoolDoctors, the online eye doctor that's available whenever you need it.Couple using CoolDoctors to help them with their eye problems

Our Silicon Valley Eye Physicians doctors are members of this program, giving our patients answers to their questions about eye problems, and prescriptions when needed for after hours relief. Telehealth programs can be a great health, but they aren't the perfect answer to all of your optical needs. Here are some pros and cons for these types of programs:

Advantages of Telehealth Programs

Telehealth doctors fill in the gap between needing to go to an emergency care situation and sitting home suffering from eye problems. Some injuries and infections are minor, but can affect your life in a way that concerns you. For situations such as eyes with discharge, blurry or cloudy vision, pink eye, and allergy eyes, frequently a quick visit over the internet is enough to diagnose the trouble and prescribe or advise a solution.

Telehealth fills in after hours when other medical professionals have gone home. You may be able to visit your optometrist during the day when your eyes begin to swell, but after midnight your medical options get much fewer. Telehealth optometrists can be a good solution.

Using a doctor online can cost much less than making an appointment and visiting the doctor's office. You won't have to waste time driving to and from the office, and you'll never have to wait more than a minute or so before you see the doctor. Telehealth systems have no waiting rooms, so your valuable time is your own.

Disadvantages of Telehealth Programs

The advice a doctor can give after an online examination is limited. It can be a great tool for solving minor eye problems, but for more serious problems you'll have to go to an emergency care center.

You'll need a credit or debit card to use a telehealth program, as they take payment before your appointment begins. If you prefer to pay cash, this program won't work for you.

There is no provision for vision care with telehealth systems. They're only meant for minor eye emergencies. For eye exams or questions about serious eye problems, you'll still have to visit the doctor's office.
